Sean O’Connell re-commits to the Kingdom for 2026

Kerry Football Club is delighted to announce that Kerry man Sean O’Connell has penned a new deal with the club ahead of the 2026 SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division campaign.

O’Connell, who recently turned 21, becomes another household name in Mounthawk Park to re-sign for the club ahead of the 2026 campaign. Since the club’s inaugural season, Sean has played a key role for the Kingdom and has become one of just three men to pass the 100 appearance mark for the club (108 in total). In 2025, he made 37 appearances and was part of the matchday squad in all 41 games last season. Sean was also at the end of several assists for the club throughout 2025 and scored a memorable goal direct from a corner against Athlone Town in Mounthawk Park.

Speaking after he penned a new deal with his home club, Sean O’Connell said, “Delighted to have signed for the upcoming season. Hopefully, we can do better again this year. I’m looking forward to the season starting again, and I can’t wait to get back to Mounthawk Park in front of the fans.”

Also speaking after Sean O’Connell extended his Mounthawk Park stay, First Team Manager Colin Healy said, “We are delighted to have Sean back again for the 2026 season with us. He has been a key player for me in my time with the group last year, and it’s evident since day one how vital a cog he has been for this club since 2023. At the age of 21, he has a huge amount of League of Ireland experience now, and he can build on that again going into 2026. So ya, another name I’m delighted to have in the group again going into the new season.”
