Kerry FC have been drawn against Ringmahon Rangers in the first round of the Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup which was drawn on Tuesday last in FAI HQ in Abbotstown
It is a historic first FAI Cup appearance for us in our short history and will add to the glamour of our first year of existence to be included in such a prestigious competition. Kerry FC were joined in the draw by the other 9 First Division clubs, all 10 Premier Division teams along with 12 non SSE Airtricity League teams from all across the country.
It is sure to be a dramatic affair in Mounthawk Park as the age old rivalry of Kerry v Cork forming a new dawn in unfamiliar territory. Kerry of course are joined by Cobh Ramblers in the first division but to meet a Cork City based club adds to the drama in the Cups earliest round.
Ringmahon Rangers play in the Munster Senior League and finished second to Rockmount as the league came to close just last week. An early trip into preseason action is sure to light a fire under the Mahon based side. Ringmahon have long been known for producing players over the last number of years. Caoimhin Kelleher, who plays his trade as Liverpool FC’s second choice goalkeeper learned all he knows from Ringmahon, with Ireland International Alan Browne also making a name for himself through Ringmahon Rangers.
The fixture details are yet to be confirmed but will take place on the weekend of July 21,22 and 23 with the winner advancing to the Last 16 stage of the Sports Direct FAI Cup.
