Daniel Okwute

Okwute re-signs for Kerry FC ahead of 2024 season

Kerry Football Club is delighted to announce that forward Daniel Okwute has penned a deal to keep him in the Kingdom until the end of the 2024 SSE Airtricity First Division season.

Okwute returned to the Kingdom during the summer transfer window, following time in Stockport County in the UK and a loan spell in Finn Harps during the first part of the 2023 campaign. Okwute became a regular feature under Billy Dennehy, making 12 appearances in the green shirt, 2 of which were in the Sports Direct FAI Cup. The 20-year-old was a graduate of the Kerry FC Academy and made the move cross-channel in 2022 before re-signing for the LOI newcomers in July.

Speaking following putting pen to paper, Daniel Okwute said “I’m really happy to have re-signed for Kerry FC and to recommit again for the 2024 season. Last year was tough but I had a really good experience playing my first bit of men’s football in a Kerry shirt. I hope we hit the ground running when we are back. We know what to improve on and I think we all know what to expect now so there should be no excuses why we aren’t getting points on the board this year. I can’t wait to see you all in Mounthawk Park next season.”

Also speaking following the signing, First Team Head Coach Conor McCarthy said “We’re delighted to have Daniel on board for 2024. Daniel is a player who has come the whole way through the Kerry FC pathway and has even had a spell in the UK with Stockport County, he represents exactly what Kerry FC is all about in terms of his hunger and desire to work day in day out to improve and progress his career. Daniel has the ability to change a game in the blink of an eye and I’ve no doubt he will have fans on the edge of their seats this season.”

Okwute becomes the 5th man to commit his future to Kerry FC, following on from earlier signings of Ryan Kelliher, Sean McGrath, Ronan Teahan and Ethan Kos.
