Matchday 19 – Kerry FC v Treaty United

As the halfway mark of the season arrives in Mounthawk Park, it’s part 2 of a June Bank Holiday weekend special as the kingdom return to Tralee tomorrow evening for a second Munster Derby in 4 days. Treaty United the visitors to Kerry with an earlier kick-off time of 5pm, just in time for Dolly Parton to clock off and get through the turnstiles in Mounthawk.

Kerry come into the game off a narrow 1-0 defeat to Cobh Ramblers in the sunny seaside time on Friday evening. With the weather tipping 19 degrees at kick-off, excitement was at fever pitch as Kerry looked to go for back-to-back wins in the league for the first time. After a positive opening quarter from, Cobh took the lead on the twenty-minute mark. A single goal separated the sides from there on out, despite Daniel Okwute’s effort crashing off the crossbar and a serious penalty shout being waved away deep into stoppage time.

So we return to a similar turn of phase at this juncture of the season. The performance is there, chances are being created but the ball can’t find the net in the final third. Small losing margins are currently separating Kerry from being a few places higher on the SSE Airtricity First Division Table.

Treaty meanwhile come into the game in 8th, one spot above Kerry in the league table. But don’t let that cover up the recent run of good form from the Limerick outfit. Draws against Munster rivals Cobh Ramblers and Cork City have been backed up by a narrow home win on Friday night against basement side Longford Town. A scoreless draw the last time the sides met in Markets Field, a game where Kerry might feel they could have gotten a 3-point outcome on Matchday 10. While the last time the sides met in Mounthawk Park, Treaty ran out 1-0 winners and were let off the hook by a missed penalty from Ryan Kelliher deep into stoppage time.
