Wexford FC v Kerry FC

Matchday 6 – Wexford FC v Kerry FC Preview

The Kingdom are back on the road on Friday night as back-to-back away trips have Conor McCarthy’s side in the South East to take on Wexford FC.

Kerry comes into this one off the back of 3 narrow 1-goal defeats at the hands of Dundalk, Bray Wanderers and Longford Town respectively. McCarthy’s charges will be desperate to put some more points on the board in Ferrycarrig Park tomorrow night.

But getting points will be no easy feat, as Wexford have made a bright start to the new campaign. 3 wins and a defeat at the hands of Athlone Town have the South Easterners on 9 points with a game in hand on those above them in the table. A win against the Kingdom will keep the pressure on league favourites Dundalk and Cobh Ramblers.

As for Kerry, all is not lost despite a run of 3 successive defeats and a win could catapult the Kingdom up into the playoff places. In what looks to be a tight league in 2025, Kerry will look to regain some form before returning home to Mounthawk Park against the students of UCD next week.

Did You Know?
Wexford are only one of a handful of sides that Kerry have yet to beat over the last two seasons in senior football. In fact, Kerry’s 4 trips to Ferrycarrig Park have ended in defeat so the Kingdom will be looking to change the stat book in their favour come Friday night.

Injury Update
Following his late sending-off against Longford Town last week, Abel Alabi is suspended and will sit this one out. Ryan Kelliher is still on the long-term injury list while Nathan Gleeson also remains sidelined. Samuel Aladesanusi made his first matchday squad of the 2025 campaign last Saturday and will be hopeful for inclusion again this week.

What they said?
Conor McCarthy – “Wexford are a very good side, to be fair to them they’ve shown that over the last couple of seasons, they’ve been in the playoffs twice. They’ve had a great start to the season so as we say every week, we need to be at 100% or we will get nothing from it. Every ground is difficult to go to, if we go there with the right attitude and we are at it for 90+ minutes it’s fair to say we are more than capable of getting a result up there.”
