Kerry Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Niall Brookwell ahead of the 2025 SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division campaign.
Brookwell, who is 22, signed for the Kingdom from Cork City where he made 15 appearances in the Rebels Army’s run to the First Division title. Niall hails from Wigan in the UK and learned his trade with Liverpool FC playing for the youths, Under 18’s and Under 23’s. He then switched to Newcastle United where he played over 40 Premier League 2 games. A move to Darlington FC in 2022 saw Brookwell gain experience in the Vanarama National League. In 2024, Brookwell played a full season with Cork City and has Mounthawk Park experience, playing 77 minutes at centre-back for Cork against the Kingdom.
Brookwell is a versatile player who can play in both midfield and defence. With 15 appearances in the league in 2024, he played right, centre and defensive midfield and also slotted in at centre-back for another couple of games. Brookwell becomes Conor McCarthy’s second new signing of the 2025 transfer window.
Speaking to kerryfc.com after signing for the Kingdom, Niall Brookwell said “I’m buzzing to get the deal all sorted, after speaking to the manager and the CEO, they made it very clear where this club is going and straight away it was something that I wanted to be a part of. Looking forward now to getting pre-season out the way and into the season in front of the Kerry fans in Mounthawk Park”
Also speaking to club media after his signing, First Team Head Coach Conor McCarthy said “We are delighted to have Niall in Mounthawk Park for the 2025 season. His experience speaks for itself. A number of years in Liverpool and Newcastle playing reserve football is great and obviously, his time in Cork City last year means he lands in Kerry with good knowledge of the league and what it’s all about. He is a versatile player and is comfortable in several positions which is a big positive for us. I’m looking forward to seeing Niall in pre-season training and I’m sure he will be a very important player for us in 2025.”
