Kerry Football Club are delighted to confirm the signing of defender Jonas Häkkinen, who has put pen to paper on a multi-year contract with the Kingdom.

Kerry FC have signed the full back from Cobh Ramblers, where he made 34 appearances in all competitions in a campaign where the Rams finished narrowly second to eventual champions Dundalk FC. Before last season with Cobh, Jonas previously lined out for Cork City, where he made 68 appearances in total, including 17 in the Men’s Premier Division.

The 26-year-old holds dual citizenship in both Canada and Finland. Born in Canada in 1999, Jonas moved to Finland, where he played for FC Haka and Vaasan Palloseura before his move to Cork. He also represented Finland on 4 occasions at Under 21 level in the 2019/2020 season.

Jonas Häkkinen becomes Colin Healy’s first new signing ahead of the 2026 campaign and joins Niall Brookwell, Matt Connor and Ewan Lee in committing to Kerry FC ahead of the 2026 season.

Speaking to kerryfc.com after he arrived in the Kingdom, Jonas Häkkinen said, “I’m really excited to sign for Kerry FC. Having worked with Colin previously, I know the standards he sets, and I’m looking forward to getting started, meeting my new teammates and connecting with the fans in the new year!”

Also speaking after securing Jonas’ services for the new term, First Team Manager Colin Healy said, “Thrilled to have Jonas here in Kerry ahead of the 2026 season. He’s a name that will be familiar to our supporters, having played against Kerry for both Cork City and Cobh Ramblers over the last couple of years. He’s a fantastic player, a strong defender and works really hard for those around him, which is exactly the quality we are looking for in our players. I worked with Jonas previously in my time in Cork, and I’ve no doubt he will prove to be a really important player for us in 2026. I look forward to seeing him in a Kerry jersey and getting going in the pre-season campaign.”
