Excitement in the county capital is at fever pitch ahead of a historic night for Kerry FC as the Kingdom have reached the quarter-final of the Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup for the first time in the club’s 3-year history.
Kerry will host Sligo Rovers in Mounthawk Park on Friday week, September 12th, in what is sure to be a special occasion for everyone associated with the club and for the dedicated supporters who have shown their colours since the club’s inauguration in 2023.
Kerry FC booked their place in the final 8 following two impressive displays in the competition in the second and third rounds. A 96th-minute free kick against fellow First Division outfit Athlone Town was rifled home by Joe Adams to force extra time in what was a dramatic night in Tralee. Kennedy Amechi scored the eventual winner to set up a third-round clash against Cobh Ramblers.
Kerry, who had progressed to the 3rd round on two previous occasions, fell short to Premier Division opposition in Drogheda United and Bohemians FC in 2023 and 2024, respectively. But this summer, the 3rd Round wasn’t a bridge too far, and an impressive 2-0 win for Colin Healy’s men has booked Kerry a spot in the last 8. SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division outfit Sligo Rovers will be the visitors to Mounthawk Park for the historic occasion next weekend.
As a proud member of the Tralee Chamber, Kerry Football Club, through the Chamber Alliance, is providing a limited number of club flags to businesses to display on their windows or flag poles to show the town’s support for the team ahead of what is sure to be a memorable occasion. As was the case with Kerry’s recent All-Ireland run, we are asking the businesses of the town to come out and show their support for the Kerry FC.
There is expected to be a large influx of Sligo Rovers supporters to the town for the weekend, ensuring further hotel beds are filled by the club in the town, while the bars are expecting some good trade around the game as well.
If you are a business owner in the town and want to show your support for Kerry FC for this massive fixture, you can contact the Tralee Chamber Alliance on 066 712 1472 or email info@tralee.ie to arrange for the collection of your flag for the big build-up to the match.
Everyone in Kerry FC would like to thank everyone in the town and the county for the continued support of the project, and we hope that a live televised semi-final may be a result after 90 minutes on Friday, September 12th.
