Kieran Cooney signs for Kerry FC from Finn Harps

Kerry Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of defender Kieran Cooney, who makes the switch to the Kingdom from fellow SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division side Finn Harps ahead of the 2026 campaign.

Cooney, who turns 21 on Tuesday, becomes Colin Healy’s latest addition to his First Team squad, who begin their league campaign in just under 4 weeks with a trip to UCD AFC. The Saint Kitts and Nevis International comes to Mounthawk Park with plenty of experience. Growing up in England, Cooney joined the Notts County Academy before graduating to the club’s senior set-up, playing several games at senior level with their reserve side. Cooney made the switch to the North West and to Donegal in July when he penned a deal with Finn Harps. He made 13 appearances for the Harps in the second half of the season and scored an impressive header in their victory over the Kingdom in Mounthawk Park last August.

Cooney impressed on trial in the Kingdom and netted a header in our friendly against Treaty United on Tuesday last.

Kieran Cooney will wear the number 5 jersey for the Kingdom in 2026.

Speaking to kerryfc.com after penning a deal in Mounthawk Park, Kieran Cooney said, “I’m really happy to have signed for Kerry ahead of the new season. After training with the lads and speaking to Colin prior to signing, I knew this move would be right for me in my own development and career. I am looking forward to a great season ahead and playing in front of all you Kerry fans. See you all soon!”

Also speaking after securing Kieran’s services for 2026, First Team Manager Colin Healy said, “We are delighted to get Kieran signed ahead of the 2026 season. He came in a couple of weeks ago and has really impressed in training and in our matches so far throughout the season. We know what he is capable of from his time in Finn Harps as well, so all in all, we are very happy to have him in the Kerry jersey for the season ahead.”
