Kerry FC v Cobh Ramblers

Matchday 11 – Kerry FC v Cobh Ramblers

After an 820km round trip to Ballybofey on Friday night, the Kingdom will be looking forward to some home comforts on Easter Monday afternoon as Kerry FC host Munster rivals Cobh Ramblers to Mounthawk Park for a 5pm kick-off.

The long journey up and down to the North West was made no easier by a disappointing 4-2 defeat on the night to Finn Harps. A comeback 1-2 lead in Finn Park at half time had Kerry supporters in a jubilant mood at the short whistle, but 3 second-half goals for the hosts made sure the Kingdom left Donegal empty-handed. There were some positives to take from the game. Kerry created multiple clear-cut chances, and on another night, they may have found the net on a couple of more occasions.

As for tomorrow’s visitors, Cobh Ramblers, they enjoyed a 1-0 win over the students of UCD in St. Colman’s Park on Friday night. That stopped a rot of 3 straight defeats in the league, although those defeats came against Dundalk and Bray Wanderers, the sides holding the top positions in the Men’s First Division. Kerry and Cobh enjoyed a scoreless draw on Matchday 2 of the season in Cork, a night where Kerry could have felt a little aggrieved not to leave the rebel county with all 3 points. A Munster Senior Cup last-16 tie ended in a 3-4 extra-time win in what was another ding dong battle between the Kerry-Cork pairing.

Did You Know?
This is the first double-match weekend of the 2025 season. Having covered 820km on Friday night, Kerry are coming into this one off the back of the longest away trip of the season. Kerry FC captain Sean McGrath signed for the Kingdom from Cobh Ramblers.

Injury Update
Kerry left Donegal with a couple of injury concerns following Friday night’s game. Samuel Aladesanusi limped off in the second half and will have to be assessed ahead of this one. Abel Alabi made his return off the bench in Finn Park following a bout of illness that kept his name off the team sheet last week against Athlone Town. Ronan Teahan was also sick and missed the trip to Donegal on Friday. Nathan Gleeson is also close to a return after a long-term injury absence.

What they said?
Conor McCarthy – “Cobh are a very good side, we’ve played them twice this season, once in the league and once in the Munster Senior Cup. They play really good football, which makes them really difficult to defend as well. You’ve to be really focused, and any lapse in concentration, you can find yourself in trouble, and we’ve seen that in previous games where they’ve hurt teams really badly when they switch off for just a second. They’ve got very good players, and we’ve got to really good to get something from this one.”
