Matchday 9 Preview – Kerry FC v Longford Town

Matchday 17– Kerry FC v Longford Town Preview

Although not fully at the halfway mark of the 2025 SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division season, Kerry play their last game before the short one-week summer break this coming Friday night with the visit of Longford Town to Mounthawk Park.

Colin Healy faced his first defeat last Friday night in Oriel Park, but the new man in the Kerry dugout was upbeat about his team’s performance, particularly the first half, where the Kingdom went toe to toe with the league leaders, creating the better chances for a majority of the game. Although disappointed by the result, Healy is on record as saying that confidence is up amongst the players and they will try to use that tomorrow night against Longford Town.

Speaking of the visitors, they are without a win since May 3rd and have no away win to date in the 2025 campaign. They suffered a difficult 5-1 defeat in the Markets Field against Treaty last Friday night and will be looking to make amends for the result to end this part of the season on a high in Tralee. Kerry, Longford & Finn Harps are all locked on 14 points in 7th place, and a win for either side could see either side be within 4 points of the play-off places come 10pm tomorrow evening.

Injury Update
Colin Healy gave some good news on the injury front earlier this week as he reported a near full bill of health ahead of tomorrow night’s game. Alex Dunne has returned from injury, while Nathan Gleeson continues his full build-up towards 90 minutes. Ryan Kelliher remains on the long-term injury list, while there are no active suspensions in the squad for Friday night.

What they said?
Colin Healy – “We are in good enough health to be fair, obviously, Ryan will be a little longer. But you know, it’s probably me getting to know the players as well. I see them in training, and they are going well, but then on a match night, it’s a little different. Look, the players that have come on, we’ve been very happy with, and training has been very good. I always want to push the players, and I want more from them, and so far, they’ve been very good with them. Can we improve in the final third? Absolutely. We can obviously improve everywhere, but overall it was a good performance, it’s not nice when you come away with nothing, but we caused them problems for the large parts of the game.”
