As hard as it might be to believe, this is Kerry’s final home game of the season. Wexford FC will be the final opposition of 2025 in Mounthawk Park. It only feels like a month or two ago that our preseason campaign began in earnest in Killarney.
Following on from a Cup exit on Sunday against Shamrock Rovers, Kerry are playing for pride in the final 3 games of the season, with away trips to Finn Harps (Monday) and the final game of the season coming on Friday against Bray Wanderers in the Carlisle Grounds. With a maximum of 9 points available for Kerry in the next 3 matches, 41 points is the highest possible finish for the Kingdom. At the moment, that would place Kerry in 6th, and a point short of the play-off berths. So there are still places to be fought for the Kingdom over the next 3 matches. Kerry FC are already guaranteed the highest league finish in the club’s short history, which in itself is something to build on in 2025. After a cup run for the ages, the season will be remembered for a long time to come.
As for Wexford, they come to Mounthawk Park with a place in the play-offs still on the line. They sit one point behind Treaty United with two games to play so it’s certainly game on for the south-easterners to earn that final play-off berth. To add fuel to the fire, Treaty United will travel to Ferrycarrig Park next Friday in what could be a winner-takes-all game in Wexford for the final spot. They will come to Mounthawk Park intent on taking the 3 points. If they don’t do so and Treaty manage to beat Bray Wanderers in the Markers Field, 4 points will be an unassailable lead for Wexford.
So it’s all systems go for both sides ahead of a crunch tie under the lights in Tralee.
