Matchday 1 – Kerry FC v Bray Wanderers

Matchday 4 Kerry FC v Bray Wanderers Preview

After defeat last time out against Dundalk, the Kingdom will be looking for an immediate response when Bray Wanderers come to Tralee on Friday night.

After an opening day win against Finn Harps and a scoreless draw away to Cobh Ramblers, Kerry came into the game against Dundalk with plenty of confidence last Friday night. Kerry, who ended up chasing the game for almost 60 minutes, could do everything bar find the back of the net. Conor McCarthy stating afterwards that if God Almighty himself was on the field, the ball still wouldn’t find the back of the net.

So despite the defeat, Kerry will still be buoyed by confidence going into this one. Back to back home games is always an important juncture in the season. No better place to back up a defeat then in front of the home supporters.

But Bray will prove the usual sticky test for the Kingdom once again on Friday night. Kerry have only nicked a single point against Bray in the 8 previous meetings of the sides, with Bray taking the full spoils on 7 occasions.

It is sure to be another absorbing contest between the Wicklow and Kerry based sides on Friday night in Tralee.

Did You Know?
The meeting between Kerry FC and Bray Wanderers in Mounthawk Park last year was the only ever Kerry FC game to be delayed due to extreme weather. A biblical hail shower as well as thunder and lightning meant the game had to be halted for over 30 minutes to clear the pitch from lying snow. It was eventful on the pitch as off it, as the visitors ran out 3-2 winners with two late goals.

Injury Update
Joe Adams can return to the Kerry FC squad this week after he served his 2-match suspension following his red card against Finn Harps on match night 1. Ryan Kelliher remains sidelined following his hamstring injury against Cobh Ramblers. Abel Alabi also remains unavailable while Niall Brookwell has also been ruled out of this one after picking up a knock. Ronan Teahan has been assessed for a small knock during this week and he is described as ‘doubtful’ by the management team.

What they said?
Conor McCarthy – “They won on the opening night which is always good. They probably have a younger group than they’ve had previously, but saying that they reached the play-off final last year. They are a very good club, always have been very strong, and we haven’t got many results off them over the last 2 seasons. Our players are well aware that we have to be at our very best to get a result. A very difficult game and we have to be right at it from the very first minute on Friday.”
