Job Description: Head of Athletic Performance

Role Overview
The Head of Athletic Performance will lead Kerry FC’s physical performance strategy across all squads, ensuring players are prepared to meet the demands of League of Ireland competition. This role combines expertise in sports science, strength and conditioning, and injury prevention with a strong commitment to Athletic development and community values.
The successful candidate will design and deliver evidence-based performance programs, oversee recovery and rehabilitation protocols, and collaborate closely with coaching, medical, and analysis staff to maximize player availability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
– Performance Strategy
– Develop and implement a holistic athletic performance framework for first team and academy players.
– Align physical preparation with the club’s playing philosophy and long-term development goals.
– Strength & Conditioning
– Plan and deliver individualised and team-based strength, conditioning, and fitness programs.
– Monitor player load, wellness, and readiness using sports science technology.
– Work with Academy S&C coaching staff to support Academy S&C frameworks.
– Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation
– Work in partnership with medical staff to design injury-prevention protocols.
– Support rehabilitation programs to ensure safe and effective return-to-play.
– Data & Analysis
– Utilize GPS, heart-rate monitoring, and performance metrics to inform decision-making.
– Provide regular reports to coaching staff and management on player fitness and progression.
– Leadership & Collaboration
– Lead the athletic performance team, including interns and support staff.
– Collaborate with coaches, analysts, and medical professionals to deliver integrated support.
– Contribute to academy development by educating young players on physical preparation.
Qualifications & Experience
– Degree in Sports Science, Strength & Conditioning, or related field.
– Professional accreditation.
– Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in elite sports environment or professional sport.
– Proven track record in player development, injury prevention, and performance optimisation.
– Strong communication and leadership skills, with ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
